|Haiphong would have a second international airport to support its rapid development|
Haiphong People’s Committee has proposed the Ministry of Transport to consider adding Tien Lang to the national airport planning in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision toward 2050.
The project is expected to help Haiphong to realise its target of becoming one of the most developed cities in Asia.
The proposal for Tien Lang Airport was tabled as part of the adjustments to the general planning of Haiphong city to 2035 with a vision to 2050, which is being appraised by the Ministry of Construction.
Regarding Cat Bi International Airport, the city is looking for approval from the Ministry of Transport to increase the capacity of this airport to the level outlined in the city’s general planning to 2035 with a vision to 2050.
According to the plan, the city would handle 13 million passengers per year by 2030 and the figure will increase to 27.6 million by 2045. The city also built plans to develop road and urban railway lines to connect with Tien Lang Airport.
Haiphong is currently a manufacturing hub for numerous economic groups and well-known investors, including LG from Korea, VinFast, and Bridgestone.
Haiphong is an international port city and a major industrial centre of the country, as well as an important traffic hub due to heavy investments in a synchronous and modern seaport system and traffic infrastructure.
These traffic systems include Hanoi-Haiphong Expressway, Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Highway, as well as the highway connecting Halong-Hanoi-Haiphong, Lach Huyen international gateway port, and Cat Bi International Airport.
